Welcome to Lady Brooke's Dress-Up page.

Return home

All my life I've loved costumes. My sister can testify to that... we spent every summer chasing each other through the woods in full costume.

I don't think she'll ever forget the time I made a paper "hoop skirt" that fell apart when it started to rain. Or the times we dressed up as pirates and "walked the plank" into the bathtub. Or turning the driveway into a ballroom on a moonlit night, and pretending the frost on the ground was diamonds.

Hmm, and I'm sure she remembers storing "costumes" and "swords" in the shower, until Mom decided they needed a new home. And having to dismantle the "throne room" when mom wanted her kitchen chairs and quilts back. And dad wondering what the black was when we couldn't get the charcoal beard-stubble off our chins.

Yes, in those days, it was easier to get away with stuff like that. Of course, I still get away with it when I can. I even indict myself by taking pictures!

Enjoy!

This was my costume at the costume party in November. I was supposed to be Lady Jane Grey, the nine day queen.

Here I am as "Maid Marion" (or maybe as a pirate lady?? lol).

Country peasant - and feeling flowery. The skirt was my sewing project when I took sewing lessons from a woman named Turzah. I had always wanted a skirt that reached the ground for dress-up, so she modified a circle skirt pattern to be longer.

Same day as above, different skirt (which I made several years later). Doesn't my Mom's homemade bread look great? I served it at the costume party, and it was a tremendous success. We broke it in pieces instead of slices, like they did in the old days, and I tell you, it really DOES improve the flavor.

Amazing what you can do with a prom dress, and they aren't that expensive at thrift stores. I was trying to look like one of my favorite authors, Louisa May Alcott.

Here I am pretending to be "normal" LOL
